AI: It's Doing the Work Now

For a while, AI felt like a fancy search engine. You’d ask it something, it would give an answer. Maybe you’d paste that answer into an email. That era is over.

This week marks a continued shift toward 'agentic AI' and 'multi-agent systems.' Think of it this way: instead of just giving you information, AI is now building the plane, fueling it, and flying it for you. These systems are designed to detect a task, plan out the steps, and execute an entire workflow end-to-end, often with a human just reviewing the final output.

What does that mean for your business? It means AI can now automate entire processes like scheduling a service call, generating a detailed quote based on customer input, or handling follow-up emails. No more clicking countless buttons, no more manual prompting for each step. It connects to your existing software and gets things done.

Automate Your Handoffs

Look for the points in your business where you hand work from one person (or system) to another. That's where AI can step in.

Identify the chain.

Map out a simple workflow: A customer calls for a quote. What happens next? Who does what?

Find the hand-off.

Pinpoint where one person finishes their part and another begins. This is where manual work or delays often occur.

Consider the agent.

Imagine an AI 'agent' taking over at that hand-off. What data would it need? What software would it connect to?

This week I'm not adding a new agent, I'm auditing the ones already running: checking that a "lead scored" or "email sent" status actually matches what happened, not just that the script didn't crash. Less exciting than shipping something new, but it's the difference between a system I can trust and one that just looks like it's working.
